8.9. System of start-up of the engine check

1. If the starter does not join at all at key turn, be convinced that the lever of the selector is in situation P or N (on cars with automatic transmission).
2. Be convinced that the battery is charged, check purity reliability of fastening of cables on the battery and on the traction relay.
3. If the starter joins, and the crankshaft is not turned, the reason is absence of gearing of a shaft of a starter with a flywheel. Assembled with the traction relay it is necessary to replace a starter.
4. At turn of a key clicks from the traction relay should be listened. If click is not listened, disconnect from the relay a wire of ignition and connect a lamp between this conclusion and a minus on the battery. If the lamp does not light up, attach an ignition wire, disconnect a high-voltage wire from the coil and earth.
Connect the voltmeter between (+) a pole of the battery and the bayonetny socket on the traction relay. If at starter inclusion tension less than 1,5 In, a starter replace. If tension is higher 1,5 In, connect a crossing point S conclusion on the traction relay and (+) a battery pole. If now at inclusion of a starter click and a starter is listened rotates, the ignition lock, the auxiliary relay, the blocking switch (are faulty on and/m with automatic transmission), I will corrode also conducting. Otherwise a starter replace.
5. If at inclusion of a starter click and a starter is listened turns the crankshaft, check a starter current, having connected the ampermeter between a power conclusion of a starter and a cable from the battery (disconnect a coil wire from the distributor).
6. If the current corresponds to norm, the starter is serviceable. If a current more standard, check an idling current, having attached a wire of the coil and having included a starter for a while no more than 30. If speed of rotation is great also a current in norm, the reason of jamming of a starter at start-up is the complicated rotation of the crankshaft (the thickened oil etc.). Otherwise a starter replace.
7. If the current is less than norm (see item 5) and the starter rotates slowly, check power failure on a working starter, having connected the voltmeter between the M conclusion (with a wattled cable without isolation) and (+) a battery pole (thus disconnect and earth a high-voltage wire of the coil). If tension is higher 1 In, switch the voltmeter to a conclusion In a starter and again check tension. If tension less than 1 In, the reason is an unsatisfactory condition of contacts if tension less than 1 In, replace the traction relay.

8. If tension less than 1 In (see item 7), check power failure on connection of a starter with weight, having connected the voltmeter between a minus of the battery and the starter case. If tension more than 0,5 In, connection with weight the unsatisfactory. If tension less than 0,5 In, execute described above check (see item 4).
